Care Routine

Here are my plans for the day-to-day care of Colin and Son of Colin.

Watering. Twice weekly. Both a good drenching. The second of these will be with some plant feed. I am going to maintain this over the winter if it looks as though it is working and then I may change the routine or the feeding as we hit spring.

Feeding. As above. Mainly just a standard plant feed although my Dad has some orchid feed kicking around. Might try that for a bit of switch-up from time to time.

Misting. Daily and as often as possible. I have a little aerosol pump sat next to the chaps on the windowsill. I will give them a spray as much as possible. These plants like some humidity and one of my fears is that, as the central heating comes on over the winter, things will dry out a bit. To combat this I am going to look to sit them on a tray of pebbles with some water in so create some local humidity. Just haven't found the right tray yet...

If either of the lads start to look a bit sick at any point then I will re-think strategies and look for help. I am reassured by some of my further reading which generally points towards these being pretty reliable houseplants. I feel as though the challenge is going to be keeping everything optimal so that in a few years time I start to see some flowers and eventually - THE BEANS!
